October is textile month in Portland. I am thrilled to be part of this event. Actually, there will be several events through out the month and workshops as well. I will be teaching a one day workshop intensive at the R A W Textiles Studio on October 13th that will explore the magical process of using iron and tannins to create dramatic effects and patterns. We will be using harvested plants and extracts to create dye baths and combine this with iron in the form of rusted objects and Ferrous Sulfate salts. This was the first process I started with when I began my natural dye journey 18 years ago…….

I will also be having an open house and sale at R A W Textiles Studio on October 19 from 3pm to 8pm. There will be scarves and fabric remnants plus elastic trims for sale. This is perfect for anyone who wants to create something special or designers who are seeking small run collections. Throughout the evening Rio will be demonstrating Hapa Zome technique with leaves rich in tannin. All are welcome!
